Who Is the Open Source Software Institute?

The Open Source Software Institute (OSSI) is a non-profit (501 c 6), membership-based organization comprised of corporate, government and academic representatives whose mission is to promote the development and implementation of open-source software solutions within U.S. Federal, state and local government agencies. 

As a non-profit organization, OSSI serves as: 

  • An Open Source ADVOCATE - OSSI serves as a collective resource and venue for the promotion, development and implementation of open-source software solutions between corporate, government and academic entities.

  • A Research and Development FACILITATOR - OSSI serves as a facilitator and coordinator of R&D projects, systems and application evaluation and development and academic studies regarding technical, policy, economic/market and legal aspects of open-source software.

  • An Open Source POLICY CONSORTIUM - OSSI serves as a forum for working committees of industry, governmental and academic representatives to address open-source issues in regards to government/industry standards, academic research, economic/market and legislative policy.

Membership

Corporate Membership includes business entities engaged in the production, manufacturing, support, development, distribution and/or sale of open-source software or entities that are directly involved in the support, development and promotion of open-source software and related products. 

Each Corporate Member in good standing has the opportunity to participate in OSSI activities. Premiere Sponsors are provided priority in their level of participation and involvement in OSSI activities. Cornerstone Sponsors are those sponsors who have demonstrated continual support at the highest level to OSSI and the Open Source Community. 

Annual Corporate Membership Dues:

  • $2,500 USD --- Annual Gross Revenue (AGR) under $25 Million
  • $5,000 USD --- AGR between $25 Million and $100 Million
  • $10,000 USD --- AGR between $100 Million and $250 Million
  • $25,000 USD --- AGR between $250 Million and $1 Billion
  • $50,000 USD --- AGR over $1 Billion

    Academic Members and Program Partners

    OSSI's Academic Partners are represented through the Open Technology Research Consortium (OTRC) a strategic alliance of leading research institutions and non-profit open source organizations whose mission is to work with Government agencies to facilitate the broad adoption of open technology solutions in public sector IT systems. The Consortium was established to facilitate the continued adoption of open technology solutions within government and public sector IT enterprise systems. It's organizational mandate is to serve the public through collaboration with Federal, state and local government agencies to help realize the technical, administrative and economic benefits of using open technology solutions.
